Well known in Richmond for it's high energy and verve, Balkanize performes an eclectic mix of folk dance and belly dance music from Albania, Armenia, Bosnia, Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Hungary, Israel, Macedonia, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Syria & Turkey using a combination of Western & traditional Eastern European folk instruments.
The group was formed in December, 2006, and since then they have played at international folk dance gatherings, belly dance haflas, weddings, private parties and other festive events throughout Central Virginia. The current lineup is comprised of :
